"Construction of the new wastewater treatment plant serving the Ascoli Satriano (FG) metropolitan area"

Ascoli Satriano Wastewater Treatment Plant
The project involved the construction of a new wastewater treatment plant serving the Ascoli Satriano (FG) urban area, along with the associated inflow and outflow collectors. The new plant was designed for a total organic capacity of 11,900 population equivalents, thereby replacing the two existing plants, which were now decommissioned and inadequate, and ensuring full compliance with the regulatory discharge limits set forth in Legislative Decree 152/06 and Apulian Regional Regulation No. 13/2017. The completed works included both the water treatment line—with the new pretreatment station for screening and grit removal, the equalization and initial stormwater storage tank, the dual-line biological oxidation and nitrification section, secondary sedimentation, tertiary treatment involving disc filter filtration and UV disinfection, the final pumping stage, and the discharge point into the water body via a vegetated basin—as well as the sludge line, equipped with pre-thickening and static post-thickening, aerobic digestion, mechanical dewatering via centrifuges, and a biofiltration system for the abatement of odorous emissions. In addition, major work was carried out on the installation of inflow collectors (including the use of trenchless techniques to overcome geomorphological constraints), the construction of the new MV/LV electrical substation with upgraded switchgear, and the installation of a centralized remote control and continuous monitoring system. Finally, to ensure the safety of the facility and its integration into the landscape in accordance with the Regional Territorial Planning Plan (P.P.T.R.), works were planned to stabilize the slopes, provide landscaping with native plant species, restore road surfaces, and pave the internal areas.
