“The intervention consists of the executive design and implementation of the upgrading and expansion works of the Bari East sewage treatment plant, which, with its potential of 461,394 A.E. is the largest sewage treatment plant in Puglia.
The intervention covered substantially all treatment stages, both the water line and the sludge line. In the first case, the heart of the intervention is the “”reconstruction”” of the oxidative compartment through the demolition and construction in several stages of a new tank with a total volume of about 34,000 m3, without ever interrupting the functionality of the sewage treatment plant.
Regarding the sludge line, however, the project included the construction of two new anaerobic digesters, each with a volume of 8,450 m3, and the upgrading of the mechanical dewatering section.
The disposal of sewage sludge has been a major issue in plant management for years, in light of the decreasing availability of possible deliveries and the resulting increase in disposal costs. With this in mind, the company offered in the tender to install as part of the work a drying plant to serve the primary sludge line. The expected reduction ratio is at least three times from 25-30% dryness of dewatered sludge to 80-90% dryness of dried sludge.
The executive design of the intervention was carried out using BIM (Building Information Model) mode.”
