“The intervention involved upgrading the Lecce sewage treatment plant. Through this intervention, the potential of the plant, in fact, was increased to 195,368 A.E.
The works carried out involved both the water line (construction of an inlet water storage basin, construction of a third line of the biological compartment and related secondary sedimentation) and the sludge line (works on the sludge thickening and dewatering compartments). With a view to reducing the energy consumption of the sewage treatment plant, the installation of a 500 KVA (400 kWe) cogeneration unit was planned. This equipment, in fact, will allow the biogas produced in anaerobic digesters to be used on the one hand for sludge heating and on the other hand for power generation. The benefits in terms of reducing the overall operating costs of the facility are quite obvious.”
