“The contract involved the upgrading of the sewage treatment plant serving the towns of Grottaglie and Monteiasi. The sewage treatment plant has a treatment capacity of 49,566 A.E. and has been sized to ensure that the discharge meets the limits set by Table 4 of Annex 5 of Legislative Decree. 152/06 (discharge to soil), given the ephemeral nature of the receiving water body. As part of the intervention, all treatment stages of the sewage treatment plant were substantially affected by upgrading works, both for the water line and the sludge line. The work also included the installation of a 122 kW cogeneration plant, with the obvious spin-offs in terms of substantially reducing the plant’s energy consumption and overall operating budget.”
